Plant a Tree for the Holidays

The Holidays are here! That means a Christmas tree will adorn the living room with beautiful lights and presents. What if you bought a potted pine or cedar tree to decorate?
What if everyone planted a tree for Christmas rather than cut one down? Think about the impact that would have!
Happy Holidays!!

One Small Thing

What is one small thing you can do in your life to change the world?
Buying ORGANIC is a good start!
If we create a demand for organic fruits and vegetables then farmers will only want to practice non-pesticide and non-herbicide farming. This is good for humans, for the soil and for insects and bees necessary to having a healthy Earth for generations to come. The best part is you won't be putting harmful chemicals in your family's food.
Money is power, so when you are buying your food you are casting your vote to how you want the world to operate around you!

The LA Urban Garden

In this picture there are lots of different plants. Here is a list of the plants; a succulent, basil, a red rose, a pink rose, a sweet potato, rosemary and thyme. I used the styrofoam cup from the tea I drank at the Indian restaurant to start a new avocado seed. I water these plants with a bucket that collects water from the shower while the water is warming up. That water would be wasted otherwise. What plants can you grow where you live? How many of these plants are edible?

The Heart

The heart is one of the most important parts of the body. The heart needs exercise in order to be strong. It needs love in order to be healthy. Take care of your heart. Listen to your heart. Follow your heart and support others who follow their hearts.

The Tree

Today I tutored a third grader at the elementary school in Los Angeles. She read a book called The Elm Tree about a little girl who saved an elm tree in her neighborhood from getting cut down. The little girl in the book wrote a letter to the "city council" and petitioned to save the tree. I asked my student what a city council was and she said "a group of people who get things done. The mayor is part of that group." I thought that was very insightful and wondered if she had ever thought about writing to her city council. Kids have more power than they think. If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

The Air We Breathe

What is air? Why is air important to all living things on Earth?

The Seed

She carefully planted the seed. She left the seed alone deep in the Earth nurturing it as best she could. The seed waited and waited until one day it woke up and began to sprout. The little sprout pushed through the darkness not exactly sure why but held onto the hope that it would eventually understand. You could say it was nurtured by hope. Then hope presented itself in a small glint of light. The sprout bowed it's head in honor of the light, took a deep inhale and made a last big push out of the cool darkness into the warmth of the light. Stretching and yawning the sprout opened up and spreads it's limbs taking in everything that was offered and seeing the world as it is. Every day the sprout grew a little. One day it noticed a large wall where the light was coming from. Curious about the wall, the sprout reached for it's peak. Everyday it spread a little further along the ground, then started climbing up the wall. It made it's way to the very top and peaked over to the other side. What it saw was amazing. The world is much bigger than it could have ever imagined. The sprout looks and sees others which makes the sprout happy and it begins to bloom. The others can see the sprout too, but it's not a sprout. It's a vine, long and lengthy with little beautiful fragrant flowers that make the others pause and reflect.
